The Jefferson County Home & Landscape Show is a day long event with 35 booths, several nurseries, artistic displays & hourly presentations.

Speakers for the Home & Landscape Show INCLUDE:

  9 am              Composting 101                                           Speaker: Roger Short of Short Farms

Do you really know the difference between compost, potting soil and top soil? What soil should you use for trees, landscapes or gardens? How do microbes digest soil? Bring your own questions and don’t be late!


10 am             Habitat for Humanity: What’s new for 2017?Speaker: Jamie Maciejewski, Executive Director

Habitat for Humanity has exciting plans for 2017 including new construction in Port Townsend and repairs for homeowners in Brinnon and Quilcene. Learn how Habitat’s home ownership program works and how you can be involved. Those interested in owning a Habitat home, or volunteering to make a family’s dream possible, should attend.

Before you trim those trees, make sure you prepare your tools. Learn proper tool care: how to clean, disinfect and maintain your shears and clippers to prevent cross contamination in your yard.

 Speaker: Terence Fleischer, 1st Security Bank

You’ve got great ideas and a Builder to turn your dreams into reality. But how will you pay for it? Terence Fleischer from 1st Security Bank will review several home financing options currently available for home improvements, renovations, and custom construction.


1 pm          Solar Economics: What’s the Bottom Line? Incentives and financing for grid-tied PV

Speaker: Andy Cochrane, President

This presentation provides a summary of different solar technologies before focusing on grid-intertied PV solar electrical systems, which currently provide the most advantageous economics at this point. The topics also include a summary of the equipment used in these installations, the amount of energy that can be produced, and price and economic models, including a review of all available incentives.

  2pm           Comprehensive Plan Update

Speaker:  DCD Director, Patty Charnas

 This brief presentation will focus on the Jefferson County Comprehensive Plan – what it is and why it is important for planning, development and permitting and how to stay informed about the Plan’s periodic update.

2:30pm   Asbestos in your home ????

Speaker: Pinky Ferro Mingo, Olympic Region Clean Air Agency

Can you spot asbestos? Do you know which products in your home have asbestos? Do you know how to safely remove it from your home?  Is Asbestos still banned in the United States? These and more question will be answered by ORCAA.

 3:15pm         Are you ready for a fire?

Speaker: Bill Beezley, EJFD 

Public Information Officer Bill Beezley from East Jefferson Fire Rescue will deliver a presentation on home fire safety.  The presentation will include fire safety equipment and systems, such as smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors, as well as, proper usage of fire extinguishers.  Bill will also briefly discuss home fire escape planning.


 4 pm      Work Source: Creating a stronger work force in Jefferson County

Putting people to work is the mainstay of WorkSource. Yet the success of this program is based in people using these tools to find a position locally. Work Source is partnering with the Jefferson County Home Builders to fill local employment needs. Are you ready for a new career?
